30-80(-100) cm hoch. Stängel glatt, stumpf 3kantig. Blätter 3-8 mm breit, graugrün, steif, flach oder rinnig, den Blütenstand weit überragend. Dieser 6-25 cm lang, mit 1-5 +/- sitzenden, 2-10 cm langen und 7-9 mm dicken, aufrechten weiblichen und 2-4 männlichen Ähren. Das unterste Hochblatt den Blütenstand weit überragend. Narben 3. Deckspelzen hellbraun, lanzettlich. Fruchtschläuche gelb glänzend, aufgeblasen, kahl, plötzlich in den 2zähnigen Schnabel verschmälert.Flowering period (© Flora Helvetica 2018)

Umriss rund oder oval. Leitbündel in mehreren Reihen. Konische Stützen. Kleine Interzellularen, oft dreieckig. Grosse, unregelmässige Intercellularen. Epidermiszellen aussen verholzt.Description
Culm-diameter 1-2 mm, center full, radius of culm in relation to wall thickness 1:1. Outline triangular, acutely. Culm-center full, containing unlignified cells. Epidermis cells inside thin, peripheral thicker-walled (lignified). Guard cells externally rounded off. Large vascular bundles arranged in 2-3 peripheral rows. Chlorenchyma in round, oval, square or rectangular groups. Sclerenchyma belt absent. Groups of sclerenchyma square or rectangular. Vascular bundles collateral closed. Small sclerenchymatic sheath around vascular bundles with 1-2 cells. Vessels arrangement in vascular bundles in lateral position. Largest vessel in the bundle 20-50 μm. Cavities (intercellulars) between parenchyma cells absent. Cavities (intercellulars) between parenchyma-cells round, oval or radial.
