Die Einheit umfasst artenreiche Unkrautfluren, in der einjährige Arten dominieren, zuweilen begleitet von einigen Geophyten (z.B. Lathyrus tuberosus*, Bunium bulbocastanum). Die meisten Arten entwickeln sich zügig im Frühling (gewisse keimen bereits im Herbst zuvor) und blühen vor der Erntezeit. Mehrere Arten sind Kriechpflanzen, die sich nach der Getreideernte weiterentwickeln (Nachernteflora: Anagallis foemina, Kickxia spp., usw.). Die Einheit bildet sich in erster Linie in Wintergetreide. Sie ist wärmeliebend und erscheint hauptsächlich in den Tieflagen. Die floristische Artengarnitur verarmt in der Montanstufe, ausser in den sonnigen, kontinental geprägten Tälern der Inneralpen. Die typische Flora dieser Einheit ist an trockene, kalkhaltige Böden gebunden und erreicht ihre grösste Vielfalt in nur schwach gedüngten Äckern, wo die Konkurrenzkraft der Kulturpflanze geschwächt ist.
