Stängel 1,5-3 m, windend. Blätter herzförmig, ganzrandig, mit feiner Spitze, glänzend, lang gestielt. Zweihäusig. Blüten grünlich-gelb, Durchmesser 3-6 mm, männliche in vielblütigen Rispen, Perigonblätter bis zur Mitte verwachsen, weibliche einzeln oder in bis 6blütigen Trauben, Perigonblätter nur am Grund verwachsen. Fruchtknoten unterständig. Griffel säulenförmig. Frucht eine rote Beere, Durchmesser 10-12 mm.Flowering period (© Flora Helvetica 2018)

Umriss rund oder oval. Leitbündel in einer Reihe. Grosse runde oder ovale Intercellularen. Epidermiszellen nicht verholzt.Description
Culm-diameter 2-5 mm, wall very large, radius of culm in relation to wall thickness approximately 1:0.75. Outline circular with a smooth surface. Center hollow and surrounded by a few thin-walled, not lignified cells. Culm without endodermis but with a sheath of lignified cells around the center. Epidermis smooth. Epidermis cells thin-walled all around. Large vascular bundles distributed in the whole culm. Vascular bundles collateral closed. Small sclerenchymatic sheath around vascular bundles with 1-2 cells. Vessel arrangement horseshoe- like. Largest vessel in the bundle 50-100 μm. Cavities (intercellulars) between parenchyma cells absent. Distinct cavities (intercellulars) in the protoxylem area of vascular bundles. Crystals as raphids or styloids.Distribution map (Atlas)
