Synthesis

Species description

Bis zu 5 m hoch wachsendes, mehrjähriges, verholzendes Gras. Rhizome und Ausläufer sich rasch ausbreitend, oft mehrere Meter pro Jahr. Stängel (Rohr) hohl, stielrund, ohne Einkerbung, 0,5-1,5 cm im Durchmesser. Internodien 15-30 cm lang, kahl, unter jedem Knoten weiss, pulverartig. Haupttrieb erst im oberen Teil verzweigt, mit meist mit nur einer Abzweigung pro Knoten (gegen die Spitze zu oft mit mehreren). Blattscheiden bleibend, bis zu 25 cm lang, die unteren dicht behaart. Seitenäste je mit 3-9 Blättern, diese 1,5-3 cm lang gestielt, mit 15-30 cm langer und bis 5 cm breiter Spreite, oberseits dunkelgrün, unterseits hell- bis blaugrün, jederseits mit 3-7 Seitennerven. Blütenrispen offen und verkehrt eiförmig (10-20 cm lang). Blütezeit zeitgleich und sporadisch, alle 15-30 Jahre, abhängig von Umweltfaktoren.
