Species description

Tree or shrubs, monoecious, 5-15(-20) m high. Bark orange-brown to black, thick, fissured, with small gray or dark brown lenticels; branches tuberculate. Leaves alternate, grouped in fascicles on young branches, pinnate or sometimes bipinnate, up to 50 cm; petioles 3-7 cm long; leaflets 7-17, sessile or almost sessile; ovate, apex acute or acuminate; margins strongly serrated or irregularly serrated; base conical or truncate ; upper surface slightly hairy on the midrib. Inflorescence is a terminal panicle, 18-40 cm, lateral cymes with 3-6 flowers; bracts narrowly lanceolate, hairy. Flowers unisexual, pedicels 2-5 mm. Sepals 5, ovate, margin crenate. Petals 4, 5-12 mm, reflexed, linear, pale yellow. Stamens 8, 6-9 mm in male flowers, 4-5 mm in female; filaments densely hairy at lower part. Disk oblique. Capsules conical, 40-60 mm, swollen, 3-sected, apex acuminate; carpels glabrous, ovoid, papyraceous. Seeds subglobose, 5-8 mm in diameter, subglobose, black.
