30-70 cm hoch. Grundständige Blätter ungeteilt, 3eckig oder oval, mit dem langen Stiel bis 20 cm lang, mit grossen, kurz begrannten Zähnen. Obere Blätter tief radiär geteilt, grannig gezähnt. Blüten blauviolett, dicht gedrängt sitzend in einem bis 6 cm hohen, kopfig-zylindrischen Blütenstand. Dieser von über 20 vielspaltigen, langborstigen, +/- stechenden, blauen Hüllblättern umgeben und überragt.
