10-50 cm hoch. Stängel 3kantig, glatt. Blätter hellgrün, flach, 1-2 mm breit, schlaff. Blütenstand kopfig, gelblich-grün, Durchmesser 1-2 cm, mit zahlreichen, dicht gedrängten Ährchen, von 2-5 blattartigen, bis 15 cm langen Hochblättern überragt. Ährchen unten weiblich, oben männlich. Narben 2. Deckspelzen grannig zugespitzt, ca. halb so lang wie die Fruchtschläuche. Diese 8-10 mm lang und höchstens 1 mm dick, geschnäbelt.Flowering period (© Flora Helvetica 2018)

Umriss stumpf-dreieckig. Leitbündel in mehreren Reihen. Konische Stützen. Kleine Interzellularen, oft dreieckig. Epidermiszellen aussen verholzt.Description
Culm-diameter 1-2 mm, wall large, radius of culm in relation to wall thickness approximately 1: 0.5. Outline triangular, obtusely. Culm-center hollow and surrounded by many large thin-walled, not lignified cells. Epidermis cells inside thin, peripheral thicker-walled (lignified). Large vascular bundles arranged in 2-3 peripheral rows. Small or rudimentary vascular bundles mainly at the periphery. Chlorenchyma absent. Sclerenchyma belt absent. Groups of sclerenchyma tangentially enlarged. Vascular bundles collateral closed. Small sclerenchymatic sheath around vascular bundles with 1-2 cells. Vessels arrangement in vascular bundles in lateral position. Largest vessel in the bundle 20-50 μm. Cavities (intercellulars) between parenchyma-cells round, oval or radial. Distinct cavities (intercellulars) in the protoxylem area of vascular bundles. Crystals absent.Distribution map (Atlas)
