Agave americana L.

Rosetten aus 1-2 m langen und 15-25 cm breiten, immergrünen, steifen und dickfleischigen, blaugrünen, lanzettlichen Blättern, vorn mit 1-2 cm langem Stachel und scharf gezähnten Rändern. Die Pflanze blüht erst nach vielen Jahren und stirbt dann ab (in der Schweiz nur selten blühend). Blütenstand (im Mittelmeergebiet) bis 10 m hoch, rispig, mit zahlreichen dichten Blütenbüscheln. Blüten aufrecht, grüngelb, röhrig-trichterig, mit dem unterständigen Fruchtknoten 7-9 cm lang.
